Judy Walker, CFE for Anago Cleaning Systems:

How has your company evolved since 1991?

In addition to our significant growth over the years, Anago has evolved into the technology leader for our industry. We perfected and implemented proprietary, cloud-based software systems to manage every aspect of the business, which enable our Master Franchise Owners to run their operation from wherever they are. We also have a proprietary mobile app used for janitorial quoting and customer service.

What are some common misconceptions about being an Anago Master Owner?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that the Master Franchise Owner is in the cleaning business. A Master Franchise Owner is NOT in the cleaning business – their Unit Franchisees are. This is an Executive model franchise and the Master Owner is in the sales and marketing business.
Another misconception is that the Master Franchise Owner must spend time cold calling and knocking on doors for cleaning contracts. Anago has completed years of research and identified the businesses within a Master territory that contract with a cleaning service and produce higher revenue for both the Master and Unit Franchisees. These leads are pre-loaded into our proprietary cloud-based software systems for the telemarketer to call and set an appointment for the Master or his/her salesperson to bid on.

How many franchised units do you have?

Anago Cleaning Systems currently has 37 Master Franchise territories located in the U.S., Canada, and South America with over 2,400 Unit Franchisees.  Entrepreneur Magazine has recognized Anago multiple times as one of the fastest growing franchises in the U.S.

Are you available in Canada and Internationally?

Yes, we have available territories in Canada and internationally.

What are some competitive advantages of your business?

  • 12 primary revenue streams.
  • No royalty payments for the first 6 months of operation, so the Master can concentrate on building his or her business.
  • One of the lowest franchise fees in the industry.
  • 20+ page fully search engine optimized (SEO) website, specific to the territory is included in the franchise fee.
  • Technology leader in the industry – proprietary mobile app used for janitorial quoting and customer service.
  • Name brand with over 25 years of experience in the franchised commercial cleaning

What is the desired background/qualities of your ideal candidate?

Anago’s ideal Master Franchise candidate is a mid-to-senior level executive with a strong background in sales and marketing. Many of our Master Owners are former CEO’s Directors and VP’s of large, nationally recognized companies. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to recruit, direct and manage highly motivated sales personnel.

What do you hope for the future of Anago Cleaning?

Anago Cleaning Systems plans to expand substantially in the next several years, both in the U.S. and internationally. We plan to stay on the cutting edge of the latest in technological advances in our industry as well.

DETROIT, MI-- Nov 18, 2013 - Terry Reuer, CEO of Dryer Vent Wizard (DVW), announced that its corporate headquarters and franchises raised $7,000 for the Children's Burn Foundation during National Fire Prevention month in October. All proceeds will go to benefit the non-profit's programs that provide educational, medical and psychological care for children burned in fires.

"Our franchisees throughout North America participated in a variety of activities during the month-long drive that helped to raise awareness about fire safety and to collect donations for this worthwhile organization," said Reuer. She recognized franchisee Webb Dickson, who serves Middlesex and Essex counties in eastern Massachusetts, as the top fundraiser at $750.

DVW franchisees gave out wristbands with the company's slogan "Prevent a Fire, Clean Your Dryer" in exchange for donations, and several franchises contributed a dollar from each completed customer service visit during October. Franchisees also partnered with local fire departments throughout the U.S. and Canada to give safety tips and demonstrate dryer vent cleaning services.

DVW is an international franchise that specializes in dryer vent repair, replacement, alteration, cleaning and maintenance for residential and commercial clients.

It is estimated that poorly maintained or clogged dryer vents are the leading cause of appliance fires, resulting in more than 15,500 dryer fires every year. These are only the reported cases.

Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Farmington Hills, Mich., Dryer Vent Wizard International services more than 9,000 communities of all sizes throughout the U.S. and Canada and helps raise public awareness about the importance of dryer vent cleaning to prevent dryer fires and save energy. Top Five Things to Consider when Choosing to Start a Cleaning Business

Top Five Things to Consider when Choosing to Start a Cleaning Business.

In an uncertain economic environment where finding a job, much less a career, can be both strenuous and stressful - many smart and savvy working professionals are yearning for the opportunity to be their own boss. While opening a small business can have tremendous personal and financial rewards, it is often viewed as a risky endeavor based on the liability assumed by individual ownership.

However, The commercial cleaning industry presents the perfect solution; an opportunity to own and operate your own franchise, be your own boss, and excel in a recession-proof industry with little to no specialized experience or education necessary. Find a company that has the experience and expertise needed to help you start a cleaning business, but before you get started there are a few important things to consider.

1. Is this the right business for me?
Commercial cleaning services are a $100 billion dollar industry projected to grow by more than 5% in the next three years alone. Owning a franchise that is part of a great structured franchisor program is a great way to stay profitable in a time of economic uncertainty; with low overheads, consistent demand, and high opportunities for growth. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that a professional cleaning specialist will be the fastest growing occupation in the next ten years, reaffirming the potential expansion of the industry and related professions.

2. Franchise management vs. independent ownership?
Owning an independent business and owning an established franchise are both viable ways to start a cleaning business; however franchise ownership offers considerable advantages that help foster long-term success. Franchise owners benefit from the company’s reputation and reliability, along with their growing base of satisfied customers. Many of the best franchisors support franchisees by offering operational training, business development coaching, marketing support, technical support, and industry/technology trend information all without having to take on the high collateral and liability associated with independent ownership.

3. Residential vs. Commercial cleaning services?
When choosing to start a cleaning business, the two most common choices are residential or commercial cleaning services. Both have key advantages; residential cleaning is usually less expensive to start, but commercial cleaning has a greater opportunity for profit and success. Owning and managing a franchise allows you to bypass the high start-up costs of creating a business from scratch while reaping the benefits of operating behind a well-established brand with solid industry connections. The commercial sector includes large-scale projects, janitorial cleaning, and a much wider range of cleaning services than the consumer sector, making it an advantageous alternative for those looking to start a cleaning business

4. Who is the target market?
While the potential benefits of commercial cleaning services are unrivaled, the task of securing customers within this market may seem daunting to those first getting started. Good franchisors will be there to help with a foundation built upon a history of top-level service. Owning a franchise under an established brand opens your business to a network of industry partners who trust and rely on the continued professionalism of franchisees. Office buildings, retail stores, healthcare facilities, stadiums, and manufacturing plants are all great examples of commercial businesses included in your potential target market.

5. What services will be provided?
There are a variety of services that commercial cleaning businesses provide and it is important to decide which areas to focus on before getting started. Floor care services, such as carpet cleaning, are exceedingly popular for commercial clients as well as exterior services such as window washing. Many franchisees specialize in scheduled maintenance cleaning for their regular customers as well. Solidifying your area of expertise will allow you to gain greater clout in the industry and further establish your brand image as a highly regarded franchise owner.

You don’t have to be an expert – an understanding of these five aspects combined with an entrepreneurial drive and dedication to success are all that’s required to start a cleaning business.
